Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band Announce 2017 Runaway Train Tour

–Russell Hall

Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band have announced the initial dates for their 2017 North American tour. Dubbed the Runaway Train Tour, the trek kicks off on August 24 in Toledo, Ohio, and wraps up on October 28 in Phoenix, Arizona. As currently listed, the tour touches down in 23 cities, but additional dates are promised for Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle, and Minneapolis, as well as other venues. Select dates will feature Heart’s Nancy Wilson as special guest.

Two of the shows will be staged in Seger’s hometown of Detroit—one on September 9 at the city’s DTE Energy Music Theatre, and another on September 23 at the Palace of Auburn Hills. A recent video released by the veteran rocker, featuring a graphic with the words “one last time,” has fueled speculation that the tour might be Seger’s last major series of performances. Still, as recently as 2015, Seger talked about his love of performing. “I like writing songs best of all,” he told Billboard, “but you never lose that thrill of taking those songs you worked on and labored over and playing them for a live audience and seeing how they react.”

News of the tour comes just as the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer’s 1994 double album, Greatest Hits, is being reissued on vinyl. The 2-LP set was also recently certified diamond by the RIAA for achieving 10 million units sold in the U.S.
