Donald Fagen Set to Kick Off Steely Dan Tour
Donald Fagen is making good on his promise to keep Steely Dan’s music alive in the wake of Walter Becker’s recent passing. Earlier this week, the singer announced that a Steely Dan tour will kick off October 13 in Thackerville, Oklahoma, and will run through October 30. The 11-city trek includes eight dates in North America, and concludes with three shows in the U.K.
Fagen penned a warm, heartfelt tribute to his Steely Dan partner shortly after Becker’s death on September 3. “Walter Becker was my friend, my writing partner and my bandmate since we met as students at Bard College in 1967,” wrote Fagen, who went on to praise Becker’s artistry and humor. He concluded by vowing “to keep the music we created alive as long as I can with the Steely Dan band.”
It’s worth noting that the October shows will not be the first Steely Dan concerts to be staged without Becker. In July, the late musician was unable to participate in the band’s performances at the Classic East and Classic West festivals, due to unspecified health issues. The last show Becker performed with Steely Dan occurred on May 27, 2017, in Greenwich, Connecticut.
