Foals – Artist Spotlight
Every now and then a really good band flies under the radar for an extended period of time. They win awards, push singles, and still never get put front and center praised for their art. Foals are currently that band. The four piece hails from Oxford, England and with four albums down, they have carved a nice little fan base catapulted by their last record 2015’s What Went Down. The band has toured extensively, have been featured at the Glastonbury, Coachella, and Roskilde festivals, and have won numerous awards over their 10+ year career including the 2016 Best Album of the Year at the Q Awards.
The bands mix of hard-driving rock, and “Prince-like” funk was apparent on their breakthrough single, 2013’s “Inhaler” off of the Holy Fire record which impressively switches from head-banging to body-moving with ease. The band further perfected that sound on 2015’s What Went Down, showcasing lead vocalist and guitarist Yannis Philippakis’s breathy, comfortable, and inviting voice.
Foals is a band worth checking out. They are currently on tour in Europe with a North American leg in late summer of 2016.
