Next month, fans of Iggy Pop can experience his electrifying performance at last fall’s Baloise Session festival on the big screen when cinemas across the country hold limited showings of Iggy Pop: Live in Basel 2015 on June 16 and 18.
Pop played the Switzerland festival last October and was also presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award by its organizers. Rising Alternative will be distributing the film, which captures Pop’s entire 18-song set featuring mainstays such as “I Wanna Be Your Dog,” “The Passenger,” “Lust for Life” and “Nightclubbing.”
“We are excited to present the Iggy Pop: Live in Basel 2015 event,” Rising Alternative CEO Giovanni Cozzi said in a press release. “Pop is such a beloved career artist, [and] we are thrilled to bring this performance to a wider audience. 2016 is a year to celebrate Iggy Pop with his recent release, doc, and tour. We hope this concert film event adds to his amazing 50 year legacy in rock music. He is loved as a rebel innovator worldwide and so many would still want to have the energy he has and the nerve to take his shirt off in front of all at 69, use whatever language he wants, and just have fun with fans.”
Pop’s most recent album, March’s Post Pop Depression, saw him collaborate with members of Queens of the Stone Age and Arctic Monkeys and resulted in his first No. 1 position as a solo artist on a Billboard chart. A Jim Jarmusch-helmed documentary about his tenure with the Stooges, Gimme Danger, premieres at the Cannes Film Festival this week.
