Joe Walsh, Jackson Browne, Mavis Staples and Others to Stage NYC Benefit Concert
Some of the music industry’s most beloved and talented artists are joining forces next Thursday (March 9) in support of a wonderful cause. That evening, New York City’s Beacon Theater will play host to “Love Rocks NYC,” a benefit concert featuring such musical greats as Joe Walsh, Jackson Browne, Mavis Staples, Dr. John, Warren Haynes, Michael McDonald and others—along with other towering figures from the music world.
Subtitled “A Change is Gonna Come: Celebrating Songs of Peace, Love and Hope,” the concert is being staged to support “God’s Love We Deliver,” a not-for-profit organization that provides meals and nutrition for people living with severe illness in the New York City metro area. Begun in 1985 as an HIV/AIDS service provider, the non-sectarian organization now cooks and delivers more than 1.6 million meals each year to people living with a variety of illnesses.
This year’s inaugural benefit is being presented by fashion designer John Varvatos and New York City real estate executive Greg Williamson. Other artists set to perform include Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks, Aaron Neville, Gary Clark Jr., CeCe Winans, Keb’ Mo, Marc Cohn, and The Blind Boys of Alabama. Rounding out the roster are William Bell, Sam Moore (of “Sam and Dave” fame), Lisa Fischer, Anthony Hamilton, Joan Osborne, Amy Helm, Catherine Russell, Jackie Greene, Marcus King, Tash Neal and many more.
Supporting the performers will be a star-studded house band that includes Paul Shaffer and Will Lee of the CBS Orchestra. For more details, including ticket information, visit the Love Rocks NYC website.
