Lollapalooza is celebrating its 25th anniversary this weekend, and doing it at, what some would call, the height of its popularity. Moving from a traveling, controlled chaos, party to a 2-day Chicago-bound festival was not an easy transition, and there were many bumps along the 25 year ride, but the foremost “Alternative” music festival in the country was resuscitated in 2005 and has since gone on to be featured internationally with burgeoning festivals in Chile, Brasil, and Germany.
What began as a vehicle for Janes Addiction’s farewell tour with friends in 1991 has since turned into a pop culture phenomenon, and an event that represents the pinnacle of many a young bands career, as well providing more established bands the spotlight. The diversity is well documented with 2016’s lineup including multiple stages and featuring heavyweights Radiohead, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, The 1975, Janes Addiction, The Struts, and Chris Stapleton among others.
Lollapalooza 2016 is being held July 28th – 31st at Grant Park in beautiful Downtown Chicago.
