Robert Plant Announces North American Tour Dates, Unveils New Song
Robert Plant has announced an initial run of tour dates in support of his new album, Carry Fire. Kicking off on February 9 in Raleigh, North Carolina, the trek touches down in twelve North American cities before wrapping up on March 2 in Los Angeles. Additional dates will be announced later this year.
Concurrent with the announcement, Plant also unveiled a new song from Carry Fire. Titled “Bluebirds Over the Mountain,” the track features guest vocals from Chrissie Hynde, one of several prominent guest artists who appear on the LP.
Carry Fire becomes the eleventh album Plant has released as a solo artist. As with his previous record, Lullaby … and the Ceaseless Roar, he’s backed on the album by the Sensational Space Shifters, who will also accompany him on the 2018 tour. In an official statement, Plant talked about the juxtaposition between his groundbreaking work with Led Zeppelin and the world music influence that’s evident in his recent work.
“It’s about intention,” he said. “I respect and relish my past works but each time I feel the trawl and incentive to create new work. I must mix old with new. Consequently, the whole impetus of the band has moved on its axis somewhat, the new sound and different space giving way to exciting and dramatic landscapes of mood, melody and instrumentation.”
