-Brian Furman

The Shins have set a date for their highly anticipated fifth record entitled Heartworms due out on March 10th via Aural Apothecary / Columbia Records. The record comes nearly 5 years after their critically acclaimed 2012 Port of Morrow. Heartworms also has the band’s heart and soul, and chief songwriter James Mercer, working the production boards for the band’s first self-produced record since 2001’s Oh, Inverted World. The band also shared the first single off the record entitled “Name For You”, it’s a wonderfully poppy song with sharp, and vintage songwriting showcasing Mercer’s chops.

The Portland, OR based Shins released their first full length album in 2001 entitled Oh, Inverted World. But the band gained success from the beautiful “New Slang” off of the soundtrack to the 2004 film Garden State. The band’s third record, Wincing the Night Away, peaked at number 2 on the Billboard 200 and earned them a Grammy Nomination for Best Alternative Album. Mercer has since gone on to form the side project Broken Bells with Danger Mouse to positive reviews.
