Smashing Pumpkins Original Lineup Close to Reuniting
Billy Corgan has revealed that speculation regarding a Smashing Pumpkins reunion will likely soon become a reality. In an interview with the WLUP radio station in Chicago, Corgan said he and guitarist James Iha are good to go. There’s one caveat, however: fans should probably not expect the reunion to be long-lived.
“I just talked to James [Iha] the other day, things look good for us getting together to play,” said the Corgan.
He added: “Being honest, there’s a willingness for us to play, but … the world has changed a lot since we didn’t play. The reunion thing is always a bit weird, because then people come in with their expectations. So my whole thing is if we’re going to do it, I think we do it to make people happy, and not go against the tide of what people would want to hear and that type of stuff, but my interest in it is sort of limited.”
Rumors that Corgan, Iha, bassist D’arcy Wretzky and drummer Jimmy Chamberlain might reunite began swirling last January. Two months later, in March of 2016, Corgan and Iha performed together twice—once in Los Angeles, and once in Chicago. Next year will mark 30 years since the original four members first took the stage together.
