A host of performers are scheduled to pay tribute to Tom Petty at the MusiCares Gala on February 10th, 2017 at the Los Angeles Convention Center, West Hall, as part of GRAMMY week. The evening will begin with a reception and silent auction followed by a gala dinner, and performances by Foo Fighters, Randy Newman, Stevie Nicks, Kings of Leon, Don Henley, Norah Jones. Lucinda Williams, and Jeff Lynne, among others. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers will close out the evening with T Bone Burnett serving as musical director. It was originally thought that the Foo Fighters would go on an extended hiatus after their last tour ended in November 2015. That tour saw Grohl fall off stage and break his leg, but ever the showman, he fashioned the most rock n roll throne ever built to continue the tour.
Tom Petty is a three-time Grammy winner with a long list of charitable work throughout his 40 year career. The award is scheduled to be presented to the singer at the 27th annual MusiCares benefit gala prior to the 59th annual Grammy awards in Los Angeles. All proceeds from the gala will go directly to the MusiCares foundation See The Musician’s Ear article on MusiCares here.
